**Two Day Program** 2021 Neuroscience Symposium Date: Tue, May 25th, 2021 Time: 3:00 pm - 6:45 pm Location: Online
Statement of Need:
Neurological disorders impact millions of Americans each year. Physicians and interdisciplinary health care team are to be updated in the latest medical and surgical treatments of neurological disease in order to offer patients the most effective treatment options. Topics to be discussed include: management of multiple sclerosis, innovations in minimally invasive spine surgery, venous sinus stenting for intracranial hypertension, update on diagnosis and treatment of migraine and other headache disorders, autoimmune-mediated encephalopathies, neuro-oncology review, advances in treatment of epilepsy, and diagnosis and differential diagnosis in Guillain-Barre syndrome. In addition, there will be case-presentations at the end of each day’s session to highlight specific neurological diseases. In-depth knowledge of these neurological conditions, and state-of-the-science options for management will aid physicians and health care providers in planning the best strategies for successful patient outcomes.
Target Audience:
Primary care physicians, neurologists, ER physicians, physician assistants, residents, nurses, medical students and others caring for patients with neurological conditions.
Speaker:
Gary Bernardini, M.D., Ph.D. Title: Assistant Professor of Neurology, Weill Cornell Medical College Clinical Position(s): Chairman, Dept. of Neurology
NYHQ Disclosures: None
Moderators:
Gary L. Bernardini, M.D., Ph.D.
Objectives:
• Discuss current management options for patients coping with multiple sclerosis and related disorders.
• Describe innovations in minimally invasive spine surgery and indications/contraindications for use of this procedure.
• Discuss the effectiveness of venous sinus stenting in managing intracranial hypertension.
• Specify the assessment of migraine and review emerging therapies for the treatment of migraine and headache from CSF leak.
• Identify an uncommon etiology of bifacial weakness.
• Describe non-operative management of traumatic brain injury.
• Specify the assessment and management of autoimmune antibody-mediated encephalopathies.
• Discuss advances and directions in neuro-oncology.
• Specify advances in the treatment of epilepsy.
• Review the differential diagnosis of Guillain-Barré syndrome.
• Identify an uncommon neurologic etiology for autonomic failure.
